Dear Colleagues,

I would like to update you on happenings with the KSR Restoration Initiative.

At the last Field Station Research and Educators Group (R&E) meeting, Dean Kettle presented an overview of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant received by KSR in May of this year. The on-the-ground restoration activities and accompanying surveys are proceeding as planned. Over the summer Vaughn Salisbury and Bernadette Kuhn completed the baseline vegetation surveys, Galen Pittman completed the initial ground level photography and bird census, and Bruce Johanning began what will be extensive tree removal. Attached for your information is a map of the KSR Field Station and Ecological Reserves along with the locations of the baseline surveys conducted this summer and those that will be conducted this fall.

On October 22, the Field Station will host a workshop on prairie plant identification and seed collection. The purpose of the workshop is to introduce members of local conservation groups and the general public to the KSR Restoration Initiative and provide them an opportunity to learn about prairie flora and restoration. Participants will collect seed for their own prairie plantings and for restoration projects at KSR.
